Homemade Thousand Island Dressing

Updated: Apr 3, 2020

Sure, this classic salad dressing starts by combining two of your most common refrigerator staples but this homemade version goes beyond the mayo and ketchup mix.

At home, we love keeping this dressing ready for use in the refrigerator as it delicious not only on salads but on sandwiches, burgers or as dip for veggies, cooked shrimp or imitation crab. This is our homemade basic recipe, from here it can be transformed to fit all tastes and preferences. Add a dash of fiery hot sauce, finely chopped cilantro, sour cream or vegan mayo and make this your favorite go-to-dressing.

INGREDIENTS

1⁄2 cup mayonnaise 2 Tablespoons ketchup 1 Tablespoon apple cider or red wine vinegar 2 teaspoons sugar 2 teaspoons sweet pickle relish 1 Tablespoon minced pickles 1 Tablespoon white onion, finely minced 1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon paprika

¼ teaspoon dry mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

The process is as easy as to just mix all ingredients and adjust seasonings to taste.

Keeps refrigerated for up to a week but in my house, it’s gone by day five!
