Berry Sangria: The Easiest Summer Entertaining Recipe You'll Make All Season

Summer entertaining doesn't have to be complicated to feel special. In fact, some of my favorite gatherings are the simplest ones—a few close friends, delicious food, laughter on the patio, and a pitcher of something refreshing waiting on the counter.

That's exactly why Berry Sangria has become one of my go-to summer cocktails.

Whether we're celebrating the Fourth of July, hosting a backyard barbecue, or enjoying a relaxing evening on the porch after one of our famous Texas sunsets, this beautiful sangria always disappears before the night is over.

Why I Love This Recipe

I believe the best recipes allow you to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with the people around your table. Berry Sangria is exactly that.

You can prepare it several hours ahead—or even the night before—allowing the wine and fresh fruit to mingle together while you focus on everything else. Just before your guests arrive, add a little sparkling water, plenty of ice, and suddenly you have a drink that's as gorgeous as it is refreshing.

It truly looks like summer in a glass.

A Celebration of Fresh Fruit

One of the things I love most about this sangria is how beautiful it becomes with fresh seasonal berries.

Juicy strawberries, sweet blueberries, and tart raspberries not only add incredible flavor, but they also create a naturally patriotic color palette that's perfect for Independence Day celebrations.

Add a few slices of fresh orange and lemon, and every glass feels bright, fresh, and full of sunshine.

Don't forget a sprig of mint for an elegant finishing touch.

Ingredients

  • 1 (750 ml) bottle Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot

  • ½ cup brandy

  • ¼ cup orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)

  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice

  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (or more to taste)

  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda, chilled

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

  • 1 cup fresh raspberries

  • 1 orange, thinly sliced

  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced

  • Ice

  • Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish

Directions

  1. In a large glass pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, orange juice, and simple syrup. Stir well.

  2. Add the strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, orange slices, and lemon slices. Gently stir to combine.

  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. For the best flavor, chill overnight so the fruit has time to infuse the wine.

  4. Just before serving, stir in the chilled sparkling water or club soda.

  5. Fill wine glasses with ice, spoon in plenty of fruit, pour the sangria over the top, and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

The Perfect Pairing

Berry Sangria is wonderfully versatile and pairs beautifully with just about every summer favorite.

Serve it alongside:

  • An All-American Hot Dog Bar

  • Grilled burgers

  • BBQ chicken

  • Texas-style brisket

  • Fresh summer salads

  • Watermelon and fruit platters

  • Loaded Ranch Potato Salad

  • Red, White & Blue Frozen Yogurt Pops

It's the kind of drink that complements casual entertaining while still feeling a little elevated.

My Favorite Hostess Tip

When entertaining, I always think about making guests feel welcome before they even take their first bite.

Instead of serving individual drinks, place a large glass pitcher of sangria on your kitchen island or buffet with a bowl of extra berries nearby.

Set out pretty wine glasses, a scoop for the fruit, and a small chalkboard sign that says:

"Help Yourself!"

It instantly creates a relaxed atmosphere and encourages everyone to gather in the kitchen—which, let's be honest, is where every great party ends up anyway.

Make It Your Own

The beauty of sangria is that it's incredibly forgiving.

Want something lighter? Use a crisp Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio instead of red wine.

Love peaches? Toss them in.

Fresh cherries? Absolutely.

A splash of blackberry liqueur? Why not?

There are no strict rules—just fresh ingredients, good wine, and a little creativity.

Entertain Beautifully

I believe entertaining isn't about perfection. It's about creating moments that people remember.

A beautifully set table. A pitcher filled with colorful fruit.Friends gathered around your kitchen island. Music playing in the background.Stories shared long after the sun goes down.

Those are the memories that stay with us.

So this summer, pour yourself a glass of Berry Sangria, invite a few friends over, and celebrate the simple joy of being together.

After all, the best ingredient in every recipe is the company you share it with.

Cheers to summer, good friends, and beautiful memories!
